The newly appointed Acting General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Bakare Oki Olalekan, has issued a stern warning to officials of the agency, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy for corruption.
In a statement released over the weekend and signed by LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq, Oki urged LASTMA personnel to uphold civility, demonstrate empathy, and avoid corruption in all aspects of their duties on the road.
Addressing LASTMA Comptrollers, Commander, and Zebras at Oshodi, Oki outlined his new vision and mission for the agency, marking a new era in traffic management in Lagos. He emphasized the commitment to ensuring a seamless commuting experience for residents across the state.
Oki made it clear that corrupt practices or bribe-taking by any LASTMA official would not be tolerated under his administration. He called on all LASTMA operatives to exercise civility when dealing with traffic offenders. The Acting GM highlighted plans for a significant reorganization within the Provost/Surveillance Department to enhance the effective monitoring of LASTMA personnel during their duties.
While assuring government commitment to the safety, welfare, and rights of personnel on duty, Oki issued a warning to the motoring public, especially commercial bus drivers, to adhere to traffic regulations as stipulated in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 (as amended).
