The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued a directive to 11 electricity distribution companies (Discos) across the country, instructing them to refund customers who were incorrectly billed at the new rate.
The commission has given the Discos until Thursday, April 11, 2024, to complete the refunds. Mr. Abba Terab, the Deputy General Manager of Market Competition and Rates for NERC, made this announcement in a statement released on Saturday.
According to Terab, the refunds must be made through energy tokens and should be completed no later than April 11. Additionally, the Discos are required to submit evidence of compliance with the Commission by April 12.
In addition to the refunds, NERC has instructed all Electricity Distribution Companies to provide clear and transparent explanations to affected customers.
