Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raided a hotel on Wednesday night, apprehending suspects who were preparing to smuggle 200 wraps of cocaine to Saudi Arabia for the ongoing Hajj pilgrimage.
The operation was meticulously planned based on intelligence reports that highlighted the suspects’ intentions to transport the narcotics via ingestion. NDLEA officers swiftly acted on this information, storming the hotel rooms where the suspects were caught in the act of swallowing the cocaine wraps.
Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, announced the successful operation via his X account on Thursday. Babafemi also shared a video showing the confiscated contraband, providing a stark visual confirmation of the thwarted smuggling attempt.
In his post, Babafemi wrote, “Caught in the Act: They were preparing to swallow 200 wraps of cocaine ahead of their flight to the ongoing Hajj in Saudi Arabia Wednesday night and #ndlea_nigeria officers stormed their hotel rooms in an intel led ops. Details shortly.”
Further details about the suspects and the subsequent legal proceedings are expected to be released by the NDLEA as the investigation continues.
