The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has issued a directive to telecom service providers to bar subscribers who have not linked their phone numbers to their National Identification Numbers (NIN) by February 28, 2024.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Aminu Maida, emphasized the importance of this directive for national security during an address at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair on Wednesday.
Through the Director of Public Affairs, Ruben Mouka, Maida reaffirmed the deadline, stressing the criticality of linking NINs to SIM cards. He underscored the Commission’s commitment to consumer rights and satisfaction, emphasizing the need to create an environment conducive to accessing affordable and equitable telecom services to support the nation’s economic growth.
Maida urged telecom firms to prioritize customer satisfaction and uphold high service delivery standards. He highlighted the NCC’s implementation of measures to safeguard the interests of consumers and businesses alike.
The directive comes amid ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government to enhance security and streamline communication networks by linking NINs to SIM cards.
