Yulia Navalnaya Accuses Putin of Killing Husband Alexey Navalny, Vows to Continue His Fight for a Free Russia
Yulia Navalnaya, the widow of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny, has accused President Vladimir Putin of being responsible for her husband’s death and pledged to carry on his mission for a “free Russia.”
In a nine-minute video released on Monday, Navalnaya emotionally declared, “Three days ago, Vladimir Putin killed my husband, Alexey Navalny.” She described the pain of losing him as akin to losing half of herself but vowed to persevere in the fight for their country’s freedom.
“I want to live in a free Russia. I want to build a free Russia,” Navalnaya asserted, urging others to join her in expressing anger and indignation toward those responsible for Navalny’s death.
Navalny passed away at the age of 47 in the IK-3 maximum security prison colony in Kharp, where he was serving a 19-year sentence on extremism charges. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, with Moscow claiming he fell ill and fainted after a walk, and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Despite three days passing since Navalny’s death, his family has been denied access to his body. Initially told that his body was in a morgue in Salekhard, Navalny’s family spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, later revealed that the body was not there after a visit.
