National Assembly Threatens to Stop FG’s Allocation to JAMB Over Excessive Expenditures

The National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance has threatened to stop the Federal Government’s grant to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in the 2025 budget, citing concerns over excessive spending.

This followed the presentation of JAMB’s 2025 budget proposal by its Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, to the Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committee. During the session, Oloyede disclosed that JAMB remitted N4 billion to the Consolidated Revenue Fund in 2024 but received a government grant of N6 billion.

The disclosure by JAMB Boss raised eyebrows from lawmakers, including Rep. Abiodun Faleke and Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who questioned JAMB’s spending.

Senator Oshiomhole further criticized JAMB’s expenditures, including N1.1 billion spent on meals and refreshments, N850 million on security and cleaning, and N600 million on local travel in 2024.

He also demanded explanations for the N6.5 billion allocated to local training.

The committee called on JAMB to justify its spending and reconsider its reliance on government grants to sustain its operations.
