NDC governorship candidate in Zamfara State, Senator Marafa, has pledged to end insecurity in the state within two years if elected governor.
Marafa made the commitment on Wednesday during a media interaction with members of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council, at his residence in Gusau.
The former senator and commissioner said his experience in public office had given him an understanding of the challenges facing the state and how they could be addressed.
Marafa said that if elected, his administration would tackle insecurity, insurgency, kidnapping and other forms of criminality across Zamfara.
He said, “If I am elected governor in the forthcoming general elections, give me a period of two years and I will end insecurity in this state.”
He further pledged to voluntarily resign from office if he failed to achieve the target within the two-year period.
“If I cannot bring an end to insecurity, insurgency, kidnapping and other criminalities in Zamfara State within the period of two years, I will voluntarily resign,” he said.
Marafa also urged residents of Zamfara to support the NDC and its candidates ahead of the 2027 elections, promising that his administration would focus on peace, stability and development if elected.
The pledge comes as the NDC intensifies its preparations for the 2027 elections in the state.
On Tuesday, Marafa donated campaign vehicles to the NDC state chairman, the Director-General of his campaign organisation and other zonal campaign executives following the flag-off of the party’s campaign activities.
The donation was presented as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s campaign structure and mobilisation ahead of the elections.
