Premier League champions Manchester City have signed Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125 million, matching the British transfer record.

City completed the deal shortly before Tuesday’s 10:00 PM GMT deadline after months of interest in the 25-year-old World Cup winner, who previously worked under manager Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.

Fernandez becomes the centrepiece of City’s revamped midfield, joining England international Elliot Anderson and Moroccan teenager Ayyoub Bouaddi.

The transfer also helped push Premier League spending to a record £3.46 billion, surpassing the previous mark of £3.1 billion.
