Malawi have reached the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final after defeating Algeria 3-1 in Rabat, with sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga scoring all three goals.

Tabitha opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with an overhead kick before Temwa doubled Malawi’s lead shortly after half-time.

Algeria lost defender Morgane Belkhiter to a red card in the first half, but Malawi also went down to 10 players when Rose Kadzere was sent off before the break.

Ikram Adjabi pulled one back for Algeria in the 60th minute, but Tabitha restored Malawi’s two-goal cushion with a solo effort in the 76th minute to seal the win.

The victory sends debutants Malawi into their first WAFCON final, where they will meet either Morocco or Cameroon on Sunday. Algeria will play in the third-place match.

Malawi, Algeria, Morocco and Cameroon have also secured qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
