BY: AYO AGBEOLUWAYE

Lagos State’s security architecture is set for a major boost as the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has successfully secured a federal donor to fully fund the construction of new and modern Police stations strategically located across the state while construction works have begun immediately, and will run in phases to capture many other Police stations.

The new facilities currently ongoing are sited at Morogbo Police Division in Badagry; Elere Police Division in Agege; Hogan Bassey Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Yaba; Oko Awo Police Station in Jankara, Lagos Island; MAN Centre Police Station in Ikeja; and a Police Division in Ilasamaja.

The spread reflects a deliberate geographic balance designed to enhance operational efficiency and response time across key urban and semi-urban corridors in Lagos.

The project facilitated under the leadership of the executive secretary of the LSSTF Dr. Ayo Ogunsan, underscores the synergy between public institutions and donor-backed initiatives aimed at strengthening internal security in lagos ;Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre with many existing Police facilities that have struggled with capacity constraints, outdated equipment, and inadequate working environments.

The new stations when completed are expected to address these gaps by providing purpose-built structures equipped for contemporary policing demands with anticipation to significantly increase enhance intelligence operations against kidnapping and organised crimes, strengthen border and coastal security operations, improve community policing in densely populated areas and also support law enforcement coverage For corporate and financial institutions..

The ongoing infrastructural project lift is also expected to have broader socio-economic implications with many Police officers working under conducive environments, enhanced quality of life for residents, and increased investor confidence.

As the construction is progressing, expectations are high that the new facilities will set a benchmark for Police infrastructure development across Nigeria. The phased development across Lagos will also ensure that many other Police stations will feel the impact of infrastructure upgrades.

Since his appointment in October 2025 to stir the affairs of LSSTF, Dr. Ogunsan has intensified efforts to bring together government, private sector actors, and development partners to support law enforcement agencies.
