The Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC) has announced the repair and rehabilitation of over 393 roads across the state in the first six months of 2024.
This achievement was disclosed by the LSPWC General Manager, Tokunbo Ajanaku, in a statement released on Tuesday.
Ajanaku noted that the corporation took advantage of the dry days in the first and second quarters of 2024 to perform various maintenance and rehabilitation operations on strategic roads.
These efforts spanned across 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 27 Local Council Development Authorities (LCDAs). He also mentioned that work on inner roads would resume in the coming weeks.
“We were mindful of the prediction that the volume of rainfall in 2024 may surpass the previous year,” Ajanaku said. “This was why we stepped up our frequency and spread on Lagos roads to put most strategic roads in good condition before heavy rains become recurrent.”
Reflecting on the corporation’s half-year performance, Ajanaku highlighted that the interventions ranged from total reconstruction to major rehabilitation, routine maintenance, palliatives, and the fixing of inner roads within public facilities. He revealed that 15 roads under reconstruction had reached various stages of completion by June 2024.
Under major rehabilitation, a total of 69 roads were completed. Some of the notable roads included Lawson Street in Lagos Island East LCDA, Femi Bamgbelu in Alimosho, Lawal Street in Alimosho, Ora Ekpen in Kosofe, Olohunlogbon in Kosofe, Selesi Street in Bariga LCDA, Fatiregun Street in Lagos Mainland, Aborisade Street in Surulere, and Arigbanla Street in Agege.
The General Manager emphasized the importance of these repairs and the proactive approach taken by the LSPWC to ensure that strategic roads were in good condition before the heavy rains.
This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Government to improve infrastructure and ensure smooth transportation across the state.
