LASTMA PERSONNEL RESCUE LAWMA REFUSE EVACUATION PERSONNEL STRUCKED DOWN BY RECKLESS TRUCK DRIVER ALONG OFFIN CANAL AXIS INWARD EKO BRIDGE.


The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued a LAWMA personnel strucked down while discharging his duties along the principal carriageway by Offin canal axis of the inward Eko bridge.


According to the Director Public affairs and Enlightemnt of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq noted that Preliminary investigations findings indicate that the container truck traveling at excessive speed had brake failure while descending the CMS bridge connecting Offin canal at Eko bridge.


The excessive speed and brake failure system led to the truck forcefully hitting the LAWMA personnel and also ramming to crush a Toyota Camry with Registration number, FST 417 FS.

The statement added that LASTMA personnel were immediately mobilised to the scene of the accident to conduct rescue and condone off the accident and while the LASTMA operatives were able to extricate the injured LAWMA officer and taken to general hospital for immediate treatments and evaluation. 


Taofiq however said the truck driver absconded from the scene immediately after the crash, but Nonetheless, LASTMA operatives succeeded in apprehending the truck assistant (motor boy), who was promptly handed over to security personnel led by the Divisional Traffic Officer (DTO) of Ebute-Ero Police Division, Lagos Island, to facilitate a thorough investigation.


Special adviser to Governor Sanwo-Olu on transportation, Mr. Sola Giwa who frowned at the reckless driving associated with some truck drivers however directed relevant security agencies to conduct an exhaustive and conclusive investigation with a comprehensive report to guide possible prosecution in strict accordance with extant laws
