LASG Introduces 25% Discount Fare On Off-Peak Blue Rail Travels

The Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line is set to increase its daily trips from 54 to 72, starting Monday, August 12, 2024, in a move aimed at enhancing commuter convenience and reducing travel time across the city.

This expansion, however, does not affect the current schedule for Sunday operations, which will remain unchanged.

Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, the Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), announced the changes, highlighting that the improved schedule will allow riders to travel between Marina and Mile 2 in just about 18 minutes, down from the previous 25 minutes.

“With a train available every 18 minutes in both directions, commuters can better plan their journeys, making their transit experience more efficient and predictable,” Akinajo stated.

In addition to the increased frequency of trips, LAMATA is reintroducing a 25 percent discount for commuters traveling during the off-peak hours, which are set between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm daily.

This discount is intended to encourage more passengers to use the train system outside of peak hours, easing congestion and reducing overall transportation costs.

The introduction of the new schedule is expected to not only shorten journey times but also attract more riders, particularly during off-peak periods, contributing to a more balanced and efficient public transport system in Lagos.

Akinajo emphasized that the updated timetables are readily accessible on the LAMATA website, at train stations, and across LAMATA’s social media platforms, ensuring that commuters have all the information they need to adapt to the new schedules.
