Lagos State is set to commence a statewide Measles-Rubella and Routine Immunisation campaign on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The week-long exercise will be officially flagged off by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.
The campaign will run until Wednesday, February 5, 2026, covering all Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas of the state.
Health authorities say the integrated campaign aligns with national and global immunisation targets.
It is aimed at protecting children and adolescents from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Measles remains a leading cause of childhood illness, while rubella infection during pregnancy can result in serious birth defects.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Ibrahim Akinwunmi Mustafa, described routine immunisation as a proven life-saving intervention.
He noted that the vaccines prevent diseases such as polio, tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough and cervical cancer.Dr. Mustafa assured residents that all vaccines are safe, effective and provided free of charge.
He stressed that sustained immunisation reduces child deaths, improves school attendance and supports long-term development.
The campaign is supported by partners including the Federal Ministry of Health, WHO, UNICEF and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.
Residents are encouraged to access vaccination services at health centers, schools, religious houses and designated posts across the state.
