The Lagos State Government has unveiled ambitious plans to bolster its state-run public transport system, particularly focusing on enhancing the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) network.
This announcement comes as a response to the ongoing challenges faced by commuters, including long queues and insufficient transportation options.
Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed the government’s intention to procure a minimum of 2,000 vehicles to address the current shortfall in buses, particularly within the BRT system.
This initiative aims to alleviate congestion and streamline commuting for residents across the state.
According to Osiyemi, the process of acquiring these 2,000 BRT buses is well underway, signaling a significant step towards enhancing the efficiency and capacity of Lagos’ public transportation network. This move underscores the government’s commitment to improving mobility and accessibility for its citizens.
Furthermore, in a notable development, an oil company has pledged support by donating 50 electric buses to augment the BRT fleet. This contribution not only underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable transportation solutions but also aligns with Lagos’ efforts to embrace eco-friendly modes of transit.
The announcement of these initiatives signals a proactive approach by the Lagos State Government to address the pressing transportation needs of its growing population.
