In response to a visitor’s social media lamentation about the deteriorating condition of the Lekki Conservation Centre, the Lagos State Government has mandated the closure of the popular tourist attraction for maintenance.
The announcement was made late on Tuesday through an official statement shared on the Lagos state government’s Facebook page.
The closure decision came after a concerned tourist shared a video highlighting the poor state of the canopy walk bridge and other areas within the conservation centre. Following the viral video, representatives from the Lagos State Safety Commission and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture visited the reserve to assess the situation.
According to the statement, the broken section of the canopy walk bridge has been promptly repaired. However, the reserve will remain closed for “further routine maintenance” to address any potential safety concerns and ensure all standards are met.
Prof Mathew Onoja, the Director-General of the Lekki Conservation Centre, expressed appreciation for the prompt intervention by the State Government. He further assured the public that the center would prioritize safety and comply with the government’s directives.
