The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Chimereze Chinedu on allegations of defrauding a Thai national of $216,000 and N30 million.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, announced the arrest in a statement on X.com on Tuesday.
Chinedu reportedly promised his victim the supply of 37 tricycles, valuing them at $216,000. In an effort to extort additional funds, Chinedu allegedly forged letters from the State Criminal Investigation Department, convincing the victim that the tricycles had been seized by the police.
Using these forged documents, Chinedu allegedly obtained an additional N30 million from the victim, purportedly to secure the release of the seized tricycles.
Hundeyin stated that the police are actively pursuing other accomplices involved in the scheme, reiterating the command’s commitment to combating internet fraud and protecting foreign nationals from such scams.
