A two-week reconstruction of the damaged expansion joint on Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway has begun, with the FRSC Lagos Sector Command advising road users to expect traffic disruptions.

The project, being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works, will reduce the affected section from four lanes to two over a 1.5-kilometre stretch, with heavy traffic expected throughout the construction period.

FRSC Lagos Sector Commander Kehinde Ganiyu Hamzat said the repair is necessary to improve road safety, prevent crashes and protect the bridge’s structural integrity. He also appealed to organisations and businesses that can operate remotely to allow staff to work from home to ease traffic congestion.

Motorists have been advised to avoid peak travel periods, use alternative routes such as the Ikorodu–Sagamu and Lekki–Epe expressways, obey traffic officials and avoid one-way driving, warning that traffic offenders will be sanctioned.
