The Lagos state House of Assembly has called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to direct the state electoral body to immediately conduct bye-electiona to fill in councillors vacant positions in some local government across the state.The vacancy came as result of deceased councillors who passed on after the electoral process last year.
The affected Local Governments and Local Council Development Area are: Odi-Olowo. Somolu, and Ibeju-Lekki Local Government.
In a motion raised by member representing Mushin constituency, Hon. Nureni Akinsanya urged the House to formally request that the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to direct the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) to conduct bye-elections in the affected Local Governments and Local Council Development areas.
He emphasized that the wards affected should not be deprived of adequate representation and the attendant opportunities within their respective Local Governments and LCDAs.
Presiding over the plenary, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, directed the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko, to formally write to the Governor, requesting him to direct Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission LASIEC to make the necessary arrangements and provisions for the conduct of the bye-elections in the affected LG/LCDAs.
Lawmakers also the plenary confirmed several nominees forwarded by the Governor for appointment into strategic State agencies.
The nominees were invited one after the other to appear before the forty-Members of the House for screening and confirmation.
During the screening exercise, lawmakers interacted with the nominees nominees on their vision and expected contributions if confirmed which according to the Lawmakers, they all responded confidently, outlining innovative ideas and broader initiatives they intend to introduce to strengthen service delivery in the State.
‎Those confirmed include Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti as Chairman, Lagos State Security Trust Fund; Engr. Olopade Adekunle as Executive Member, Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission; Barr. Mrs. Temitope George as Chief Executive Officer, Lagos State Electricity Commission; Mr. Alexander Akinwunmi as Chairman, Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission; Mr. Falola Olakunle as Executive Member, Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission and Mr. Bello Wasiu Oladimeji as Member (Non-Executive), Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
‎Following the deliberations, the House confirmed all the nominees except Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, whose confirmation was stepped down for further consideration.‎‎Subsequently, the lawmakers also mourn the passing of the Permanent Vice Chairman of Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Aholu Babatunde Akran who was Wheno-Aholu Toyi 1, a position he held till his Demise at age 89.
