Kunle Afolayan has described the company’s relationship with Netflix as one of the most significant developments in its journey.
Speaking on the Ni-dacity Podcast, Afolayan said the partnership allowed KAP Group to concentrate more on producing films instead of constantly searching for financing.
According to the filmmaker, streaming platforms can help independent filmmakers overcome two major challenges: funding productions and reaching audiences beyond Nigeria.
Afolayan said the support from Netflix played a major role in the success of his film Anikulapo, adding that he would like to see more opportunities of that nature for filmmakers.
He also stressed the importance of making films with long-term appeal, saying his productions are created for both Nigerian and international audiences.
Afolayan said his goal is to produce films that can remain relevant and attract audiences decades after their release, rather than treating a film’s theatrical or streaming release as the end of its journey.
