Kenya’s President, William Ruto, has ordered a review of plans to raise the salaries of members of the cabinet and parliament following a public outcry.
It comes a week after mass protests forced President Ruto to drop a controversial finance bill that had included tax hikes.
The pay increase of between 2% and 5% for all state officials, covering judges as well, was recommended by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
Meanwhile, several lawmakers have called for parliament to reject the pay increase.
