The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has issued a directive to halt the use of Point-of-Sales (POS) machines and other electronic mobile money transaction devices within police stations and other police facilities across the country.
Egbetokun stated that the ban was necessary in response to public concerns regarding alleged illegal and illicit transactions involving POS machine operators and certain police personnel.
The decision aims to uphold the integrity and security of police operations, as well as to prevent potential corrupt practices.
The directive, conveyed through the force spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, underscores the importance of maintaining discipline within the force and safeguarding against criminal intrusion under the guise of electronic money transactions.
The Inspector-General emphasized that any police command or formation found violating the directive would face severe consequences. Similarly, police officers and POS operators implicated in such activities will be dealt with accordingly.
