INEC to introduce Computer-Generated Slips for voter's accreditation

The Independent National Electoral Commission is proposing the replacement of Permanent Voter Cards with computer-generated slips or downloadable credentials for voter accreditation.

Its Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed this yesterday at the consultative meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja, said the proposal was part of the 142 recommendations outlined in the commission’s 524-page report.

Yakubu said this move would save costs, address challenges related to PVC collection, and curb the practice of PVC buying that disenfranchises voters.

Our correspondent, Raliat Adenekan reports that INEC boss stated that the review report also contains recommendations on diaspora voting, early and special voting for Nigerians who are disenfranchised due to essential election duties.
