INEC chairman rejects calls for resignation

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected calls for the resignation of the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu by the Labour Party and the People’s Democratic Party

Chief Press Secretary to INEC Chairman, Mr Rotimi Oyekanmi in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja asserted that the allegation by the PDP’s agent, Dino Melaye that the INEC Chairman allocated scores to parties is unfounded and irresponsible.

Oyekanmi had noted that contrary to the views of both parties, results from the States point to a free, fair and credible process, and there are laid down procedures for aggrieved parties or candidates to follow when dissatisfied about an election outcome.

He encouraged the aggrieved parties to approach the courts to express their concerns and wait for the matter to be addressed, as making inciting comments capable of causing violence or unrest in the country is misplaced and unacceptable.
