Peter Okoye, one-half of the famous P-Square pop group, has publicly addressed his twin brother, Paul Okoye, also known as Rudeboy, in a heartfelt open letter posted on Instagram on August 12, 2024.
The letter comes in the wake of their recent split and escalating tensions between the brothers, who have dominated the Nigerian music scene for years.
In his post, Peter expressed deep frustration and disappointment over what he perceives as ongoing attempts by Paul to undermine his contributions to P-Square.
He specifically called out his brother for repeatedly discrediting him in various public statements and interviews, which Peter believes have damaged their shared legacy and unfairly portrayed him in a negative light.
“An open letter to my dear brother Paul Okoye, aka Rudeboy. Just like I have told you several times, I am not in competition with you or anybody else. However, seeing you grant countless interviews where you constantly discredit my effort to the group that we both created and built together speaks volumes. In your recent interviews, you claim that you wrote and sang 99% of all P-Square songs,” Peter wrote.
The letter also delves into the personal toll the ongoing feud has taken on Peter, including what he describes as continuous disrespect toward his wife, family, and himself. Peter accused Paul of aligning with their older brother, Jude Okoye, during past disputes and of attempting to turn their fans against him by spreading false narratives.
“I often find myself wondering what do you truly gain by constantly disrespecting and belittling me all the time. You have disrespected my wife, disrespected my family, disrespected my talent, disrespected my ideas, and even sided with Jude when he was clearly trying to oppress me. Now, you have taken it further by trying so hard to turn the fans against me by making them believe that I’m jealous of you,” Peter continued in his letter.
Despite the bitterness evident in his words, Peter expressed a desire to move forward and focus on his music career. He reiterated that his aim is not to compete with his brother but to continue creating music in peace.
“I hope you are happy now. I genuinely wish you nothing but the best, bro! As for those who believe the lies and false narratives and come to my page to drop negative comments, I understand because you have been fed the wrong narrative for a long time. Please allow me to focus and do my music in peace,” he added.
Peter also hinted at ongoing legal matters involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the group’s former manager and elder brother, Jude Okoye, promising to address these issues in due course.
