The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources, Downstream and Midstream, has reassured Nigerians that the country currently holds over 1.5 billion litres of petrol in its storage facilities, sufficient to last for 30 days.
The committee, led by Ikenga Ugochinyere and Odianosen Okojie, emphasized the need for citizens to remain calm and refrain from panic buying.
Addressing the media in Abuja, the committee disclosed that despite challenges in transportation logistics, petrol products have arrived in the country, but distribution to marketers was initially disrupted. However, the committee assured that these logistical issues have been addressed, and product distribution has resumed. As a result, they expect the long queues at petrol stations to dissipate in a matter of days.
Furthermore, the committee expressed its commitment to cracking down on hoarders and saboteurs, who exacerbate the challenges in the petroleum supply chain.
In conclusion, the committee urged Nigerians to trust in the availability of petrol and refrain from panic buying, as doing so only worsens the situation.
