Hoodlums Attack Lagos BRT Bus, Passengers Robbed in Broad Daylight

A Lagos State-regulated Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) bus was attacked by suspected hoodlums in broad daylight, leaving passengers shaken and robbed of their belongings.

The bus, with identification number 240216, was en route from the Mile 2 Terminal to Lagos Island when the incident occurred near Alaba Suru.

The attack, which has sparked outrage and concern among Lagosians, took place in full view of the public. A video of the incident, which began trending on Thursday, shows the aftermath of the attack, with the bus’s window glasses shattered by the assailants. The footage also captures the chaos as passengers were forced to surrender their possessions to the attackers.

In response to the alarming incident, the Lagos State government has taken swift action.

Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, announced that the Lagos State Task Force, led by CSP Tayo Akerele, has deployed security officers along BRT routes across the state. The deployment began at the Alaba Suru area, where the attack occurred, and will continue across other routes to ensure the safety of commuters.

Gawat’s update on social media confirmed the increased security presence, stating, “Lagos State Task Force led by CSP Tayo Akerele has deployed security officers on BRT routes across the State starting from the Alaba Suru area where a BRT was attacked by some suspected hoodlums recently.”
