German President Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to undertake a state visit to Nigeria from December 10 to 12, 2024. This visit, announced by the German Embassy in Nigeria, marks the third high-level exchange between Germany and Nigeria since the inauguration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The primary objectives of President Steinmeier’s visit are to reinforce the strong bilateral relations between Nigeria and Germany and to express Germany’s appreciation for Nigeria’s role on the international stage. The visit follows earlier engagements, including a trip by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Nigeria in October 2023 and President Tinubu’s visit to Germany in November 2023.
Accompanying President Steinmeier will be a delegation of CEOs and senior executives from leading German companies in the IT, high-tech, and energy sectors. This delegation underscores the growing interest of German businesses in exploring investment opportunities in Nigeria, reflecting the potential for economic collaboration between the two nations.
During his stay, President Steinmeier is expected to meet with President Tinubu and Dr. Alieu Omar Touray, the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission. Additionally, he will visit Lagos, where he will engage with business leaders, explore the local start-up ecosystem, and connect with cultural and civil society representatives, including renowned figures such as Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka.
This visit is anticipated to further strengthen the partnership between Nigeria and Germany across various sectors, including economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties.
