The head coach of Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national football team, the Flamingos, Bankole Olowookere, has announced a squad of 25 players for their upcoming training camp in preparation for the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup. This tournament is set to take place in Ghana from December 12 to 26, 2024.
The selected squad features several players who recently showcased their talents at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in the Dominican Republic, where the Flamingos reached the quarter-finals and earned the FIFA Fair Play Trophy. Notable inclusions in the squad include:
Shakirat Moshood A standout midfielder who scored four goals during the World Cup.
– Christiana Uzoma The first-choice goalkeeper.
Taiwo Adegoke, Jumai Adebayo, and Prisca Nwachukwu.
Harmony Chidi, Peace Effiong, and Janet Akekoromowei.
The Flamingos have been drawn into Group B of the tournament, where they will compete against the U-17 teams from Cote d’Ivoire and Niger Republic. Group A consists of the host nation Ghana, Burkina Faso, and Benin Republic.
All invited players are expected to report to the Remo Stars Sports Institute in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State, starting December 3, 2024, to commence their preparations for the tournament.
