The FixPolitics Initiative has called on the National Assembly to urgently amend the newly signed Electoral Reform Law to make real-time electronic transmission of results mandatory.
In a statement, Executive Director of the group, Anthony Ubani, described the development as a “grave mistake” that must be corrected before the 2027 general elections.
Ubani said, “Despite overwhelming public opposition and peaceful protests across the country, the National Assembly passed a version of the Electoral Reform Bill that weakens real-time electronic transmission of results. The President has now signed it into law.”
The group also urged Bola Tinubu to “demonstrate leadership by supporting a swift amendment that restores full transparency to the electoral process.”
According to the organisation, “Real-time electronic transmission of results from polling units is neither a luxury nor an experiment; it is a democratic safeguard that builds public confidence.”
FixPolitics warned that failure to reverse the law would “leave a permanent question mark over the credibility of future elections” and insisted that corrective legislation must make e-transmission “mandatory and non-negotiable.”
