Four workers tragically lost their lives when a building under construction collapsed early Thursday morning at 13, Wilson Mba Street, Arowojobe Estate, Maryland, Lagos.
The incident occurred at 3:49 AM, marking yet another devastating building collapse in the area.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) quickly responded to the scene. LASEMA’s Director-General, Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the grim development in an official statement.
He reported that a set of three terraces under construction had given way, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation.
“Our team responded promptly to the incident and initiated search and rescue efforts immediately. Sadly, we recovered four adult males who were already deceased,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
“However, we managed to rescue five adult males alive from the rubble. All the men were site workers.”
The five rescued workers, who were all adult males, received pre-hospital care at the scene before being transported to a local hospital for further treatment. The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) was notified to handle the remains of the four fatalities.
LASEMA’s excavator was deployed to accelerate the search and rescue operations, ensuring no additional persons were trapped under the debris.
