A fire outbreak has razed a one-storey shopping complex housing clothes dealers at 1, Amore Street, Ajegunle Boundary area of Lagos.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, activated the state’s emergency response plans after receiving distress calls at about 12:40 a.m. via its 767 and 112 toll-free lines.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene around 3:22 a.m. to find the complex and surrounding shops engulfed in active flames.

The Permanent secretary at LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu said the fire spread rapidly due to the high volume of combustible clothing materials stored within the premises.
H said preliminary investigations revealed that the inferno was caused by a power surge following the restoration of public electricity supply.
According the permanent secretary, “No lives were lost and no casualties were recorded during the incident”
The LASEMA Response Team cordoned off the area and implemented safety measures to protect adjoining buildings.
A coordinated multi-agency operation involving the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police successfully contained and extinguished the fire.
Properties and goods worth millions of naira were completely destroyed, while the structure was partially compromised.
He noted that damping-down operations are ongoing and recommend a structural assessment and improved fire safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
