The Federal Government has said ongoing reforms in the agricultural sector have begun to yield results, with prices of essential food commodities dropping by about 50 per cent across the country.

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, who disclosed this today in Abuja at the opening of the 2026 Ministerial Stakeholders Engagement Retreat on Agricultural Transformation, said the administration has placed food security at the centre of its national agenda, focusing on boosting local production and reducing reliance on imports.

Kyari added that in the past two years, the Federal Government distributed more than 1.9 million bags of fertiliser to nearly one million farmers and trained thousands on sustainable soil management and organic fertiliser use.

In his remarks, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the government remains committed to transparency, citizen participation and sustained economic reforms aimed at stabilising the economy and strengthening food security.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, urged stakeholders to support the ministry’s programmes, noting that collaboration is key to long-term transformation in the sector.
