The Federal Government yesterday said it would undertake a review of the nation’s visa policy to attract foreign investments and encourage visitations to the country.
The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this disclosure during a stakeholders consultative meeting on Nigeria visa held at the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja.
Tunji-Ojo emphasized the need for a visa policy that aligns with the goals of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to address past inadequacies in visitor numbers relative to Nigeria’s population and resources.
“We are determined to ensure that in the next couple of weeks, the new implementation framework will be on the ground,” Tunji-Ojo affirmed, underlining the urgency of the policy revision.
The minister stressed the importance of striking a balance between facilitating easy access to visas and safeguarding national security. He acknowledged the complexity of this task but expressed confidence that a well-crafted policy would promote healthy investment promotion for Nigeria.
Tunji-Ojo highlighted the potential benefits of an updated visa policy, foreseeing its positive impact on tourism and infrastructural development.
By attracting more visitors and investors, the country aims to stimulate economic growth and achieve greater balance in its national security architecture.
