In response to the recent flooding that has severely impacted Section 111 of the Kano-Maiduguri Road in Bauchi State, the Federal Government has mandated an immediate technical assessment to address the situation.
This directive was issued by the Ministry of Works, aiming to provide swift relief to the Malori-Guskuri community, which has been significantly affected by the road’s disruption.
The Ministry’s technical team is set to evaluate the extent of the damage and propose emergency solutions. The objective is to restore access and ease the suffering of the affected residents as quickly as possible. The assessment is part of a broader strategy to ensure the resilience and durability of key national infrastructure, particularly in regions prone to natural disasters.
This development was communicated in a statement released on Saturday by the Ministry of Works. The statement followed a high-level meeting between the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, and contractors involved in various ongoing road projects across the country.
During the meeting, Minister Umahi reiterated the government’s commitment to the timely completion of infrastructure projects, particularly those funded under the tax credit scheme. He expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of some projects and disclosed that the contract for Section 1 of the Kano-Maiduguri Road, which was held by E Contractors, had been terminated due to the expiration of the contract period.
Umahi emphasized the importance of constructing roads that are not only completed on time but also built to last. He stressed that the durability of infrastructure is a top priority for the government, especially in light of the recent flood that highlighted the vulnerabilities of the country’s road network.
The Minister called on all parties involved in these projects, including contractors and stakeholders, to demonstrate greater commitment and efficiency. He particularly noted the contributions of major companies such as Dangote, BUA, and Mainstream Energy, which are involved in the tax credit scheme to support the government’s infrastructure agenda.
