In a recent visit to the Kwara Command in Ilorin, the Inspector General of Police (IG-P), Kayode
Egbetokun, unveiled plans to double the manpower strength of the Nigerian Police Force.
Acknowledging the current shortage of personnel, he emphasized that one policeman is currently
handling the workload meant for two.
Egbetokun outlined the gradual implementation of the manpower increase, citing President Bola
Tinubu’s approval for yearly recruitment in the police force. The IG-P emphasized a focus on training,
with a forthcoming program ensuring that policemen undergo training annually. He also pledged
improvements in welfare, including salary increments and enhancements to the pension scheme.
“My plan for the police pension scheme is to ensure that when you retire, you still get your salary,” he
affirmed.
Addressing concerns about equipment, Egbetokun assured that all necessary logistics for effective
policing would be provided. He commended the Kwara command operatives for their dedication to
maintaining peace in the state, recognizing their achievements in arrests, convictions, and the recovery
of arms.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Victor Olaiya, took the opportunity to request Armored
Personnel Carriers (APCs) to enhance the command’s operational capabilities.
