FG Distributes 215,000 MAMA Kits to Vulnerable Pregnant Women

The Federal Government has distributed 215,000 MAMA kits, 40,000 maternal food-support packs and 40,000 newborn clothing to women in Nigeria.

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who flagged off the distribution at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja, called for stronger collaboration among governments, traditional and religious institutions, development partners and philanthropists to reduce maternal and newborn deaths.

She said pregnancy and childbirth should be occasions of hope and joy rather than a threat to women’s lives, stressing the need to reach poor, underserved and hard-to-reach communities.

The intervention is being implemented under the Maternal and Neonatal Mortality Reduction Innovation Initiative (MAMII) of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, with the aim of encouraging greater use of antenatal, delivery and postnatal services.

According to the First Lady, the 215,000 MAMA kits represent the second batch of the programme, following the distribution of 110,000 kits in 2025.

She added that the government would expand the intervention to more local government areas where the uptake of maternal and newborn health services remains low.
