A Federal High Court in Kano has issued a restraining order against the National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), preventing them from implementing the proposed new electricity tariff for Band A consumers.
The court’s decision follows a suit filed by several companies, including Super Sack Company Limited, BBY Sacks Limited, Mama Sannu Industries Limited, Dala Foods Nigeria Limited, Tofa Textile Limited, and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Limited.
The suit, marked FHC/KN/CS/144/2024, was brought before the court to challenge the planned tariff hike. Acting on behalf of the plaintiffs, Abubakar Mahmoud, their counsel, filed an ex-parte motion seeking immediate relief from the impending tariff increase.
In response, the presiding judge, Abdullahi Liman, granted the motion and issued a temporary injunction, restraining NERC and KEDCO from implementing the new tariff until the court hears and determines the matter.
