The Federal Government has urged the National Council on Education (NCE) stakeholders to makesecondary education a part of basic education, extending it to 12 years of uninterrupted basic education, as this aligns with global best practices and Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4).
With this development, the government is seeking the abolition of the 6-3-3-4 education system and replacing it with 12-4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, who revealed thisyesterday, in Abuja during the 2025 extraordinary National Council on Education (NCE) meeting, also advocated for converting the Federal Science and Technical Colleges (FSTCs) into Federal Technical Colleges that enable young people develop an intelligent understanding of the increasing complexity of technology.
