The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially inaugurated the Federal Coordinating Council for the Protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (FCCPNAI) in a ceremony held in Abuja. This initiative, led by National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu, aims to enhance the security and resilience of the nation’s vital infrastructure.
During the inauguration, Ribadu emphasized the importance of safeguarding critical national assets, which include transportation systems, energy grids, and communication networks. He noted that these assets are essential for the country’s prosperity and are increasingly threatened by various malicious activities, including terrorism and cyber-attacks. The council is designed not only as a response to these threats but also as a proactive measure to foster collaboration and strategic planning among stakeholders involved in national security
Co-Chairman of the council, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for supporting the establishment of the council. He assured that the Ministry of Interior and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps would fully commit to protecting the nation’s critical infrastructure, particularly in light of recent attacks on electricity transmission towers
The formation of this council marks a significant step in Nigeria’s ongoing efforts to secure its critical infrastructure and ensure the safety and stability of its services
