The Federal Government says it will continue to prioritize the wellbeing of Nigerians wherever they are found and continue to safeguard them at all times.
Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eche Abu-Obe, gave the assurance in a statement yesterday, following reports that some Nigerians were being targeted in Libya, after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision to award three points and three goals in favour of Nigeria against Libya, for their ill-treatment of the Nigerian contingent beforea Nations Cup Qualifying Match.
Abu-Obe said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs convey that as of the time of the statement, Nigerians in Libya are going about their daily activities, devoid of any form of harassment by Libyan authorities.
However, the President of the Nigerian community in Libya, Peter Omoregbie, said arrests of some Nigerians started on Sunday night in some areas in Teodora.
In a post on its social media page last Sunday, a popular Libyan news blog, Libya News Today 1, said all Libyan TV channels are urging the government to arrest the Nigerian workers who are working in Libya without legal papers or paying taxes.
It proffered that the burden of the $50,000 finewhich the CAF committee also ordered the Libyan Football Federation (LFF) to pay within 60 days should be borne by undocumented Nigerians living in Libya, or they face deportation if they refuse.
