The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has approved a total of N242.68 billion for the rehabilitation, rescoping, and construction of 14 critical road projects across Nigeria.
This development aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes infrastructure development and the completion of inherited projects to boost economic growth and connectivity across the country.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during a press briefing with State House correspondents following the FEC meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja.
Umahi highlighted that the approvals reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure to support transportation, trade, and national development.
The approved projects span multiple states and geopolitical zones, with significant budget allocations. These include the Agaie-Katcha-Baro Road in Niger State, allocated N22 billion to Messers GR Building Construction Limited; the Odukpani Junction (Calabar-Ikom-Ogoja Road) in Cross River State, awarded N26.335 billion to Samatech; the Abeokuta-Ajibo Road and Iyana Mosa Road in Ogun State, which received N10.89 billion for execution by Messers HM Construction Limited; and the Inoma-Iyaka-Abaji section of the Ibaji-Odulu-Ajibu Road in Anambra State, allocated N9.33 billion to Niger Cat.
Other projects include the Umuahia-Ituano-Ikot Ekpene Road (Umuahia Emudike Section) with N14.37 billion awarded to Heartland Reckon Construction Company; the Kaduna-Jos Road (Phase One) covering Kaduna and Plateau States, allocated N33.423 billion to Setraco; and the Yola-Fufure Road in Adamawa State, receiving N11.81 billion with WisChina Worldwide Engineering Limited as the contractor.
Further approvals include the Ijebu-Ibutita Ebe Road in Ogun State with N13 billion allocated to Aretha Construction Limited; Amido Road in Taraba State with N7.68 billion awarded to Messers Mode Limited; and the Nkomoro-Isu Road spanning Enugu and Ebonyi States, allocated N14.49 billion to Arab Contractors.
Additionally, the Aba-Owerri Road Dualization via Ikot Ekpene Border was awarded N11.55 billion to Arab Contractors; the Gashua-Bayamari Road (Section Two) in Yobe State received N9.68 billion allocated to Messers Wick Rock; the Ikorodu-Shagamu Road (Phase One of the Lagos-Ibadan Road) was awarded N27.59 billion to Arab Contractors; and the remaining sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Road were allocated N30 billion to RCC.
Minister Umahi emphasized that the road projects are designed to not only improve transportation networks but also stimulate economic activities, reduce travel time, and enhance the safety and comfort of road users. He assured that the Ministry of Works will closely monitor the implementation of the projects to ensure strict adherence to quality standards and timelines.
