Enyimba claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Nasarawa United in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) match at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Goals from Joseph Atule and veteran striker Brown Ideye secured the victory for the Peoples Elephant, further cementing their strong form in the league.
Joseph Atule opened the scoring with a clinical finish before Brown Ideye doubled the lead with a well-taken effort.
Nasarawa United managed to pull one back, but it was not enough to deny Enyimba all three points.
The match marked yet another strong performance from Ideye, who has been instrumental since his return to the NPFL.
The 36-year-old, who last represented the Super Eagles in October 2016, has expressed openness to a national team recall. Ideye was a key figure in the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa.
Speaking before the match, Ideye said, “I’m always available for the national team if called upon. I believe I still have what it takes to contribute.”
Since rejoining Enyimba, Ideye has been in fine form, including scoring in the club’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Black Bulls of Mozambique in the CAF Confederation Cup. His experience and leadership continue to be invaluable assets for the team as they chase domestic and continental glory.
