The Federal Government and the Enugu State Government have officially signed a host state agreement, granting Enugu the full rights to host the 23rd edition of the National Sports Festival in 2026.
The agreement was signed at the Government House in Enugu by the Director-General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, representing the Federal Government, and Governor Peter Mbah, representing Enugu State.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Mbah expressed gratitude to the National Sports Commission and other stakeholders for entrusting the state with the responsibility of hosting Nigeria’s premier multi-sport event. He assured that the 2026 festival would set a new benchmark for organization and experience.
“We thank the Commission and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in Enugu and my administration to host this prestigious event. We are committed to delivering an unforgettable festival that will leave a lifelong memory and exceptional experience for athletes and sports enthusiasts in Nigeria and beyond,” Governor Mbah said.
The 2026 National Sports Festival will be the first to be held in Enugu State, a development seen as a significant boost to sports development and tourism in the Southeast region. Governor Mbah emphasized that his administration would ensure the successful planning, execution, and delivery of the event.
Director-General Olopade commended Enugu State for its readiness to take on the challenge of hosting the festival, expressing optimism about the state’s ability to provide world-class facilities and hospitality for athletes, officials, and fans.
