The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims circulating in the media alleging that it had released a list of 58 former governors under investigation for corruption.
The purported list claimed that these former governors were being probed for misappropriating a staggering sum of N2.187 trillion over a span of 25 years.
In response to these reports, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, issued a statement on Sunday categorically denying the authenticity of the list. Oyewale labeled the reports as false and misleading, asserting that the so-called list was a fabrication with motives known only to its creators.
The anti-graft agency emphasized the importance of disregarding such misleading information and cautioned media practitioners to diligently crosscheck facts with the Commission before disseminating reports about matters under investigation.
