EFCC Chairman Vows to Resign if Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello Isn’t Prosecuted

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has made it clear that he is willing to step down from his position if the embattled former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is not prosecuted.

Speaking to journalists at the EFCC Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, Olukoyede affirmed his commitment to ensuring that justice is served, regardless of the status or influence of the accused.

Olukoyede’s vow comes amidst ongoing efforts by the EFCC to bring Bello to justice on charges related to alleged money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds amounting to N80.2 billion.

The anti-graft agency has filed 19 counts against the former governor, signaling a determined stance to hold accountable those accused of financial impropriety.

Expressing his resolve to pursue the case against Bello to its conclusion, Olukoyede underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law and combating corruption at all levels. He emphasized that no individual, regardless of their position or influence, should be immune from prosecution if found to have engaged in criminal activities.

Furthermore, the EFCC chairman vowed to ensure that anyone who obstructed the arrest of the former governor would also face legal consequences.

Despite facing criticism and challenges, Olukoyede reiterated that he and his team would not waver in their efforts to cleanse the country of corruption. He emphasized that the EFCC would continue its mission to sanitize the nation’s governance and financial systems, undeterred by external pressures or attacks.
