Edo State Governor Approves N70,000 Minimum Wage for Civil Servants

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has made a significant stride in uplifting the welfare of civil servants by approving a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers in the state.

The governor made this announcement during the commissioning of the new Labour House in Edo State on Monday.

Effective from May 1st, 2024, the new minimum wage reflects the state government’s commitment to improving the living standards of its workforce.

Governor Obaseki’s decision underscores the importance of ensuring fair compensation for public servants, recognizing their invaluable contribution to the state’s development.

This move comes amid ongoing discussions between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Federal Government regarding the necessity of adjusting the minimum wage to align with the escalating national inflation rates and the soaring costs of essential commodities, particularly food items.
