Cubana Chief Priest Ordered to Forfeit ₦10 Million in Settlement with EFCC

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered popular celebrity bartender and businessman, Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, to forfeit the sum of ₦10 million to the Federal Government.

The Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered popular celebrity bartender and businessman, Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, to forfeit the sum of ₦10 million to the Federal Government.

This decision comes as a part of a settlement agreement concerning allegations of Naira abuse.

The terms of the settlement were adopted by Justice Kehinde Ogundare during court proceedings on Tuesday. Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, representing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), informed the court that both parties had entered into an out-of-court settlement, which was duly signed and agreed upon.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chikaosolu Ojukwu, who represented Okechukwu, expressed his appreciation for the EFCC’s pragmatic approach in resolving the matter. He noted that his client, Cubana Chief Priest, was remorseful for his actions and has vowed to reform his behavior moving forward.

“The defendant is equally remorseful and promises to turn over a new leaf going forward,” Ojukwu stated during the proceedings. He further highlighted the mutual benefit of the settlement, acknowledging the EFCC’s reasonable action in addressing the issue without prolonging litigation.

The court’s decision to adopt the terms of the settlement resulted in the dismissal of the charges against Okechukwu. Justice Ogundare, in his brief ruling, endorsed the settlement terms and consequently struck out the charges.

The settlement and subsequent forfeiture of ₦10 million are viewed as a cautionary measure and a significant stance against financial misconduct. The EFCC’s role in facilitating a resolution without an extended trial has been commended as a balanced approach to justice and reform.

Cubana Chief Priest, a well-known figure in Nigeria’s entertainment and business circles, has faced scrutiny over allegations of financial impropriety. This case, now resolved through the settlement, serves as a reminder of the legal and ethical responsibilities that come with public prominence and influence.

As part of his commitment to change, Okechukwu has pledged to adhere to legal and financial regulations, aiming to avoid any future infractions.
