The Cross River House of Assembly has reinstated its Speaker, Elvert Anyambem, who was impeached recently, on grounds of high-handedness and financial impropriety.
The State Gov. Bassey Otu, had on Monday, announced that he has brokered peace in the state assembly, and normalcy had returned in the house.
During the assembly’s sitting yesterday, Cyril Omini, representing the Yakurr I constituency, moved a motion passing a vote of confidence on the speaker, which was supported by Kingsley Ntui, representing the Etung constituency.
17 out of the 25 members of the assembly had signed the notice to impeach the speaker, with the allegation that he indulged in arbitrary expenditures in contravention of the state’s Legislative Funds Management Law, 2021.
