Court Grants Suspended CBN Governor Emefiele N20million Bail

The Federal High Court in Lagos has mandated the interim forfeiture of significant sums of money and numerous properties linked to Godwin Emefiele, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Federal High Court Sitting in Lagos has granted the suspended Governor of the CBN, Godwin Emefiele, a N20m BAIL with one surety in like sum.

Emefiele’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu (SAN) in his submissions, had urged the court to grant bail on self-recognizance – while the court had ordered that Emefiele be remanded at the CORRECTIONAL CENTER until the fulfillment of the bail conditions.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo had rejected the claim that Emefiele was a flight risk, after the 61-year-old pleaded “not guilty” to the TWO COUNTS of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition filed against him by the Federal Government.

However, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), had insisted on re-arresting Emefiele, following a dramatic tussle with officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
